Located atop the buried ruins of Kharkhorin, the historic 13th-century Mongol capital, Mongolia’s oldest monastery continues to thrive as a spiritual center. At Erdene Zuu, dedicated monks pace the tranquil grounds, deep in contemplation. Meanwhile, out of frame, cows graze along the well-preserved surrounding wall, which is lined by an impressive chain of majestic stupas.

I have two versions of this shot—one with cleaner symmetry and one with a bit more character. I decided to publish the imperfect rendition.
